Pumpkin carving is the best thing and the worst thing during Fall. Messy and sometimes a failure, carving pumpkins into Jack O Lanterns can sometimes be the most frustrating thing ever. Here at Dominion Ridge, we love getting festive and into the Fall spirit. We have put together our top pumpkin carving tips and tricks to help you out this holiday season.
1. Pumpkin Carving Tips and Tricks #1 – Choose The Best Pumpkin
People – this is probably the most IMPORTANT tip to pumpkin carving; choosing the right pumpkin. As of right now, there are so many choices in the stores including pumpkins that look deathly ill. Don’t buy that pumpkin. Look for one that has no bruises, a flat bottom, and of course, ORANGE!
2.Pumpkin Carving Tips and Tricks #2 – Scoop Out All The Pulp
Cut the lid off and begin the scooping process. Use an ice cream scoop and start scooping y’all. Scoop everything and we mean, everything. Thin the pumpkin wall so it will be easier to carve and voila! Remember, this is messy so we recommend doing this outside.
3.Pumpkin Carving Tips and Tricks #3 – The Carving
When you are ready to carve, make sure you place the pumpkin in your lap and carve facing you (so you can see what you are doing). If you are terrible at drawing / carving / everything creative, it’s probably a good idea to add some guidelines before you start carving.
4.Pumpkin Carving Tips and Tricks #4 – Jelly
If you are like us, your pumpkin will probably shrivel up before anyone even sees it. Make sure you put petroleum jelly all around the cut openings so it lasts a little longer. Also, dunk your pumpkin in cold water for 8 hours to give it a little face lift.
5. Pumpkin Carving Tips and Tricks #5 – For the love of light and cinnamon
Once you have lit your candle and put it inside your pumpkin, cut a little chimney where the black marks. Then, sprinkle cinnamon on the lid. When your candle burns, your whole house will no joke smell like pumpkin pie. We won’t be complaining.
