Christmas and the holiday season may be over, but our love for hot chocolate is not. Despite experiencing some warmer weather here in Texas, there are days that get colder than others. We still love sitting at home with our blankets with a cup of hot chocolate while watching movies. Let’s be honest, though; we are all guilty of making hot chocolate with powder and hot water. Don’t lie; we know you are guilty of this too! We explore how to make the perfect hot chocolate and boy, this Jacques Torres recipe is amazing!
Ingredients
60% Dark Chocolate
Corn Starch
Whole Milk
Heavy Whipping Cream
Milk Powder
Whipped Cream Topping
-Measure out a cup of heavy whipping cream, pour into a medium mixing bowl and place bowl into the freezer for 5 minutes.
-Take the bowl out of the freezer and proceed to whisk the cream. Ensure you use a large whisk.
*You can expect to be whipping for several minutes. If you are super eager, try using three whisks at once. This saves time and makes fluffier whip.
-Your whip is done when you have created soft peaks. Place in the fridge (not freezer)
Hot Chocolate
-Over medium-heat, bring 2 cups of whole milk to the boil.
-While you wait for your milk to boil, measure out 1/2 cup (50g) of milk powder and 1 teaspoon (3g) of cornstarch.
-In a small bowl, combine the milk powder and cornstarch. Whisk together to combine.
-Measure out 3/4 cup (150g) of 60% dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate.
-Check on your milk. It should be boiling by now so please turn the heat down to medium and whisk it to prevent it from bubbling over.
-Add the chocolate to your milk, whisking as you go.
-Add the cornstarch / milk powder mixture while you are still whisking.
-Bring the hot chocolate to boil. Turn the heat off as soon as the hot chocolate starts boiling. V IMPORTANT!
-Pour the hot chocolate into glasses to serve. Note: this mixture makes 4 hot chocolates. YUM!
-Take the whipped cream out of the fridge and dollop some on top of each hot chocolate
**CAUTION: This recipe makes very rich hot chocolate. If you prefer a subtle hot chocolate, bring 3 cups of whole milk to boil instead of 2.
